Words of the Victims making Allegations against Tim Ballard

 

I have been sickened to hear some of the specific allegations against Tim Ballard. However,I believe that transparency is the only disinfectant for this type of behavior. I'm not going to list these specific allegations - I have done that already here, here and here. But hearing the actual words from the victims themselves has shaken me to my core. And I knew much of the substance of them already. Today, I want to send you to Radio Free Mormon (RFM) because he reads their words verbatim.

Allegations against OUR's Attorney

One of the specific allegations detailed in the videos linked above is that OUR's attorney flew in to an "op" to personally deliver the news to Tim Ballard that someone had filed a claim against him. He said something to the effect of: "We'll do an investigation and find you innocent of everything. That'll help."

Sham investigations - particularly those performed in-house that are declared to be such by the person leading the investigation - will do your company no good. I am blown away that an attorney would be so brazenly awful. On second thought, no I am not.

OUR is, my opinion, going to be taken to the cleaners. And they absolutely should be.

An Aside - The Mormon Connection

You may have noticed the handle of the person whose YouTube videos are linked above. He is an attorney turning investigative journalist while he winds down his law practice who exclusively focuses on the doctrine, practices, and newsworthy items related to Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon Church).

The Mormon and post-Mormon community has been enflamed with this scandal because Tim Ballard and Operation Underground Railroad (OUR) have been allegedly closely connected with one of the most senior leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon Church). The close contact, M. Russell Ballard (no relation, MRB), is considered an Apostle, Prophet, Seer, and Relevator by church members. MRB allegedly was a "silent partner" on one or more of the companies run by or founded by Tim Ballard. Further, Tim Ballard claims that MRB blessed OUR's tactics, specifically including the "Couples Ruse" that has proven to be so problematic. MRB himself referred to Tim Ballard and OUR several times, which have now been removed from the Mormon Church's official website (www.churchofjesuschrist.org). The website scrubbing is, in and of itself, a large red flag. Many aspects of Tim Ballard's operations, including the movie The Sound of Freedom (which is an entirely made up story), were to provide "sizzle" that would bring money to Tim Ballard personally and drive people to the Mormon Church. MRB, through the Mormon Church, has denied the allegations and sought to distance himself from Tim Ballard.

Takeaways

First of all, ick.

If the allegations are true, Tim Ballard is a serial sexual predator. Full stop.

Second, sham investigations are not harmless. They show a willingness to do a coverup. In other words, there is an inherent acknowledgement of wrongdoing and a purposeful decision to hide that wrongdoing. Covering up known problems tend to increase awards and settlement amounts. Don't do them!
